The EV Industry Needs More Electric Car Charging Stations

Charging Stations

If the current boom in electric vehicles is to continue, there is one important thing that the industry needs, and they need it very soon. Is it better design or more affordable electric vehicles? While some automobile manufacturers could use one or the other, possibly even a little of both, that isn’t it. In fact, the one thing that is holding the electric vehicle back isn’t manufacturer related at all. It has to do with electric vehicle infrastructure here in the US. The lack of charging stations, to be exact.

With the number of EVs on the road in the US expected to triple in the next few years, we are seeing a serious lack of charging stations which could leave many of these plug-in EV’s stranded. With more areas of the country better prepared than others, it will become more about where you drive, than when you drive as it pertains to electric vehicles.

Cities That Need To Up Their Charging Station Game

A new study from the scientific research nonprofit International Council on Clean Transportation, has mapped out a charging infrastructure that the US will need by 2025, and it is quite an ambitious goal, especially if we are to see more than 3 million EVs on the roads by then. The study shows that certain cities, New York, Boston, Portland, Oregon and Washington, DC will need to do the most to meet the needs of their electric vehicle drivers.

While many private companies are working to build charging stations throughout the country, experts say that the government will have to pitch in as well. Even in California metro areas, where utilities and private companies are already building more than 26,000 new stations by 2025, these states might still come up almost 41,500 chargers short.

Aside from the cities above, there are certain states that will need to focus on their EV charging system infrastructure. These include Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Yet, some cities, including Kansas City, Missouri, Nashville, Tennessee, and Indianapolis, Indiana, are ready for the future of electric vehicles today.

Could this shortage leave many green car buyers looking for an alternative? And could that alternative be in the form of a solar powered vehicle?

The World’s First Never Charge Electric Vehicle!

While many solar powered vehicles are still in the prototype stages, there is one company whose solar powered vehicles are already on the road. Aptera, has launched the world’s first Never Charge electric vehicle.
